WARRIOR GRAPPLERS DOMINATE KING’S

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa – The Lycoming College wrestling team, ranked eighth in the nation, hosted King’s College, Friday evening, for a Middle Atlantic Conference dual match. The Warriors lost just one bout in a dominating effort against the Monarchs. Lycoming improves to 13-5 overall and 4-0 within the MAC. King’s falls to 4-7 and 0-2.

The Warriors accepted a forfeit at 125 pounds to open the match, but the Monarchs got on the board at 133 pounds with a 7-5 decision by John Houssock (So./Sweet Valley, Pa.; Lake-Lehman). Lycoming’s Drew Barder (Fr./Millersburg, Pa.; Upper Dauphin) opened up a 4-1 lead in the first period, but Houssock recorded a takedown and three back-points in the third period to come from behind for the win.

Eric Snyder (Sr./Milton, Pa.; Milton) extended the Warriors’ lead at 141 pounds with a first period pin of Matt Flannery (So./Hatboro, Pa.; Upper Moreland).  

At 149 pounds, Kyle Hopkins (So./Milton, Del.; Cape Henlopen) added a 6-3 decision for Lycoming over Adam Penberthy (Fr./Dingman’s Ferry, Pa.; Delaware Valley). Hopkins tallied takedowns in the first and third periods en route to the win.

The Warriors picked up 12 more team points in less than a minute as King’s forfeited 157 pounds and Grant Brindle (Jr./Pine Grove, Pa.; Pine Grove) pinned Robert Bareese (Fr./Scranton, Pa.; West Scranton) in just 53 seconds at 165 pounds.

Derek Crane (Sr./Elizabethtown, Pa.; Elizabethtown) secured the team victory for Lycoming at 174 pounds with a 6-1 decision over Ryan Mardon (Fr./Berwick, Pa.; Berwick). Crane recorded two takedowns in the bout.

The Warriors pulled away even more in the final three bouts. Matt Miller (Fr./Muncy, Pa.; Montgomery) pinned Zach Dietrick (So./West Orange, N.J.; West Orange) in 3:32 at 184 pounds. Kevin Colton Craig (Sr./Flanders, N.J.; West Morris Mendham) accepted a forfeit at 197 pounds. And Tommy Snyder (Jr./New Columbia, Pa.; Milton) recorded a 16-5 major decision over Jim Bishop (So./Valley Stream, N.Y.; Valley Stream) at heavyweight.

Lycoming will wrestle again on Wednesday, January 26, when they travel to York College.
