Warriors Win a Pair at Olivet
OLIVET,
Mich. – Lycoming wrestling was in action in a dual match
setting for the first time this season at the Olivet College
Comet Duals. The Warriors went 2-2-1 in their five match
ups. Lycoming fell to Wisconsin-Stevens Point 18-16 in
round one, but came back for a 26-13 victory over Wabash
(Indiana) in round two. After losing to Wartburg (Iowa)
29-12 in round three, Lycoming righted itself by tying host
Olivet 16-16 in round four and defeating Mt. St. Joe’s
(Ohio) 29-15 in round five.
Against
Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Lycoming won at both 125 and 133
pounds with a 3-0 decision from freshman James Saxton
(Cinnaminson, Pa./Cinnaminson) and a 10-0 win from
junior Sean Cullen (Cinnaminson, Pa./Cinnaminson).
Junior captain Eric Miller (Muncy, Pa./Montgomery)
won 3-1 at 157 pounds, and senior captain Tom Snyder (New
Columbia, Pa./Milton) received a forfeit at heavyweight.
The
Warriors won six bouts against Wabash beginning with junior
Kyle Hopkins (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) at 141
pounds by forfeit. Sophomore Drew Barder (Millersburg,
Pa./Upper Dauphin), Miller, and senior Heath Oberlin
(Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) earned decisions at 149,
157, and 165 pounds, respectively. Lycoming got a pair of
pins for the final two victories from senior captain
Derek Crane (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) at 174
pounds and at heavyweight by Snyder.
Wartburg
surrendered three matches to the Warriors in round three.
Freshman Al Wonesh (Columbus, N.J./North Burlington)
won by a 6-2 decision at 157 pounds, and Oberlin received a
forfeit at 165 pounds. Snyder earned his third victory of
the afternoon with a 5-1 decision at heavyweight.
Lycoming
won at the three lightest and two heaviest weight classes
against Olivet in round four. Junior Nick Mascellino
(Hopatcong, N.Y./Hopatcong) won 5-3 at 125 pounds while
Cullen triumphed 8-2 at 133 pounds and Hopkins 7-2 at 141
pounds. Sophomore Matt Miller (Muncy, Pa./Montgomery)
won 4-3 at 197 pounds, and Snyder stayed perfect with a 14-6
major decision at heavyweight.
The
Warriors took six match ups from Mt. St. Joe’s in round
five, albeit three via forfeit. Cullen won 9-0 at 133
pounds followed by a forfeit to Hopkins and an 11-3 decision
for Oberlin at 165 pounds. Junior Tom Daub (Duncannon,
Pa./Susquenita) and freshman Brian Gable
(Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast Catholic) won by forfeits
at 184 and 197 pounds, and freshman Edward Fooks (York,
Pa./Eastern York) earned a 3-0 decision at heavyweight.
Lycoming is
next in action on Wednesday, November 30, as the Warriors
travel to the University of Scranton for a dual meet. Start
time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
