Warriors Blank Blue Jays in Home Opener
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. Lycoming wrestling opened its home season in
resounding fashion with a 46-0 trouncing of Elizabethtown
College in Lamade Gymnasium on Saturday
evening.
The Warriors improve to 5-2-1 on the year while E-town falls
to 2-5.
The
Warriors recorded a trio of fall victories in the match.
Junior Sean Cullen (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson),
rated sixth in the nation, won by fall at 2:02 of the first
round against Stephon Finley at 133 pounds. In the
165 pound bout, senior Heath Oberlin (Mifflinburg,
Pa./Mifflinburg) needed only 1:55 seconds to pin
Wayne Hummer. Senior heavyweight Tommy Snyder (New
Columbia, Pa./New Milton), also ranked sixth in the
country in his class, pinned Ezra Schatz with only 13
ticks off the clock in the first period.
At 125
pounds, freshman James Saxton (Cinnaminson,
N.J./Cinnaminson) won 9-5, but not without some effort.
Etowns Peter Achilles kept the match level at 4-4
after one period, and trailed by only one at 6-5 after two.
Saxton picked up three points early in the third to give him
the 9-5 winning result.
In the
141-pound bout, junior Kyle Hopkins (Milton, Del./Cape
Henlopen) earned a 16-0 technical fall over Justin
Martin. He picked up seven points with overpowering
strength in the second round on his way to victory.
Sophomore
Drew Barder (Millersburg, Pa./Upper Dauphin) had a
tough battle with Jereme Heisey at 149 pounds. The
duo went scoreless in the first two rounds, but Barder
controlled much of the movement throughout the second
frame. Barder started the third period in the down position
and Heisey let him out surrendering one point in hopes of
regaining control for a takedown. The strategy back-fired
as Barder came back with two of his own takedown points.
Heisey earned a reversal for two points, but Barder quickly
escaped to increase his edge to 4-2. Barder held off Heisey
for the last 19 seconds to earn the victory
At 157
pounds, junior Eric Miller (Muncy, Pa./Montgomery),
up 2-0 after the first period, seemed in trouble in the
second frame after he was taken down by Rob Bozart.
But Miller escaped and immediately took Bozart to the mat
for a 5-2 advantage. Milled picked up one more point in the
third to win 6-2.
Senior
Derek Crane (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown) picked up
a 17-1 technical fall victory with 4:15 gone from the clock
against Robert Rosario. At 197 pounds, senior
Justin Hoffacker (New Oxford, Pa./Bermudian Springs)
held on for a 10-8 decision over James Campologno.
Lycoming
doesnt compete again until after the first of the year at
the Pennsylvania/New York Duals held at the Rochester
Institute of Technology. That meet is scheduled for January
7 at 1:00 p.m.
