WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College wrestling team hosted Ithaca College, Monday evening, for a dual match featuring two nationally ranked programs. The Warriors entered the match ranked 15th in the nation, while the Bombers came to Lamade Gymnasium ranked eighth in the nation. Lycoming (4-4) was in control early building a 13-3 lead after four bouts, but Ithaca (1-0) ran off six straight wins for a 25-13 victory overall.

Nick Mascellino (So./Hopatcong, N.J.; Hopatcong) got the Warriors off to a fast start at 125 pounds, pinning Kyle Kemmerer (So./Kutztown, Pa.; Brandywine Heights) just 2:13 into the match. With the bout still scoreless, Mascellino caught Kemmerer in a shot and turned him to his back for the sudden fall.

Sean Cullen (So./Cinnaminson, N.J.; Cinnaminson) added a 9-4 decision at 133 pounds to push Lycoming’s early lead to 9-0. Cullen carried a slim 5-4 lead into the final period, but with a riding time advantage as well, Scott Aronowitz (Jr./New City, N.Y.; Clarkstown North) was forced to give up an escape point on an optional start. Cullen then sealed the match with a late takedown.

The Bombers got on the scoreboard at 141 pounds with an 8-7 decision. The match was essentially tied entering the final period as the Warriors Eric Snyder (Sr./Milton, Pa.; Milton) held a 7-6 lead, but Ithaca’s Sean Nye held more than a minute of riding time. Snyder eliminated the riding time advantage by riding Nye for nearly the entire third period, but Nye scored a reversal with two seconds remaining to record the one-point decision.

Sean Reese (Sr./Milton, Pa.; Milton) struck right back for Lycoming with a 10-2 major decision over Derek Sweet (Fr./Portageville, N.Y.; Letchworth) at 149 pounds. Reese took control of the bout in the second period, recording an escape, a takedown, and two back-points. The bonus point gave the Warriors a 13-3 lead after four weights.

K.C. Beach (Sr./Brentwood, N.Y.; Brentwood) tallied a second decision for Ithaca at 157 pounds with a 7-4 decision over Jason Smith (Jr./Hughesville, Pa.; Hughesville). Beach broke the bout open in the second period with a late takedown and two back-points.

Marc Israel (Sr./Bethlehem, Pa.; Liberty), ranked fifth in the nation at 165 pounds, pulled the Bombers back to within one with a second period pin of Scott Hays (So./Yeagertown, Pa.; Indian Valley). Israel dominated the first period, building a 9-3 lead. He then recorded another takedown early in the second period and turned Hays to his back for the pin at 3:29.

Ithaca made it three in a row at 174 pounds, as Matthais Keib (Jr./Fulton, N.Y.; G. Ray Fulton) scored an 11-3 major decision over Derek Crane (Sr./Elizabethtown, Pa.; Elizabethtown). Keib secured the bonus point with a takedown in the final seconds of the bout. The bonus gave the Bombers their first lead of the match at 16-13 with three weights to wrestle.

Rob Stubbs (Jr./Levittown, N.Y.; MacArthur) kept things rolling for Ithaca with an 11-5 decision over Hank Reedy (Fr./Sinking Spring, Pa.; Wilson) at 184 pounds. Stubbs took an early lead with a takedown in each of the first two periods and finished Reedy off with a trio of takedowns in the final period. The victory gave the Bombers a 19-13 lead with two bouts remaining.

Nick Calandrino (So./Emerson, N.J.; Emerson) clinched the match for Ithaca with a 6-4 decision over Kevin Coulton Craig (Sr./Flanders, N.J.; West Morris Mendham) at 197 pounds. Calandrino built a 5-1 lead in the first two periods and held Coulton Craig at bay in the final period to secure the victory.

Bryan Petti (Sr./Lockport, N.Y.; Lockport) finished the match off for the Bombers with an 11-4 decision over Tommy Snyder (Jr./New Columbia, Pa.; Milton) at heavyweight.

Lycoming will be at home again for their next dual match, hosting Wilkes University for a Freedom Conference match on Friday, December 10.
