WARRIOR
WRESTLERS CLOSE REGULAR SEASON WITH FOUR DUAL VICTORIES
WILKES-BARRE, PA
– The Lycoming College wrestling team traveled to Wilkes University,
Saturday afternoon, to compete in four dual matches. The Warriors
were victorious in all four challenges, defeating Wilkes 44-0,
Scranton 45-9, SUNY-Maritime 51-6, and Gettysburg 54-0. Lycoming
completes the dual-meet season with a mark of 19-8.
In the shutout of
the Colonels, the Warriors were led by Grant Brindle (Jr./Pine
Grove, Pa.; Pine Grove), Andy Hull (Sr./Mill Hall, Pa.; Bald
Eagle Nittany), and Tommy Snyder (So./New Columbia, Pa.;
Milton) who each pinned their opponents. Brindle tallied a
second-period fall at 174 pounds, Hull needed just 80 seconds at 184
pounds, and Snyder recorded his pin in the second period of the
heavyweight bout. Jason Smith (So./Hughesville, Pa.; Hughesville)
and John Battaglia (Sr./Beaver Falls, Pa.; Blackhawk) added
major decisions at 157 and 197 pounds, respectively.
Against Scranton,
Lycoming recorded falls in five of the ten bouts. Eric Snyder
(Jr./New Columbia, Pa.; Milton) pinned his opponent at the 1:48
mark of the first period at 141. Smith tallied a pin in 2:23 at 157.
Hull racked up his second pin of the afternoon at 184 in the first
period. Al Fluman (Jr./Gettysburg, Pa.; Gettysburg) followed at 197 with another first period fall.
And Chad Decker (So./Marysville, Pa.; Susquenita) made it three in a row at heavyweight, needing just
1:53 to pin his opponent.
The Warriors
closed out the quad-meet with a seven-pin performance over SUNY-Maritime.
The wins-by-fall included: Zach Knorr (Fr./Royersford, Pa.;
Spring-Ford) at 133 pounds; John Ambs (Jr./Mt. Joy, Pa.;
Donegal) at 141; Sean Reese (Jr./Milton, Pa.; Milton) at
149; Heath Oberlin (So./Mifflinburg, Pa.; Mifflinburg) at
165; Kevin Colton-Craig (Jr./Flanders, N.J.; West Morris Mendham)
at 174; Lance Wilt (Fr./Lamar, Pa.; Central Mountain) at 184;
and Decker at
heavyweight.
Lycoming tallied
their second shutout of the afternoon versus Gettysburg. Eric
Snyder, Oberlin, and Brindle each recorded pins, while Knorr and
Wilt added technical falls.
Lycoming will
compete in the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships hosted by
the University of Scranton on Friday and Saturday, February 20-21.
