LYCOMING WRESTLERS TOP WILKES IN DUAL
MATCH
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –The Lycoming
College wrestling team hosted Wilkes University, Friday evening, for
a Freedom Conference dual match. The Warriors won 8-of-10 bouts en
route to a 38-9 victory over the Colonels. Lycoming improves to 5-4
on the season, while Wilkes falls to 1-2.
Jeremy Mayer (Sr./Great
Meadows, N.J.; Hackettstown) got the
Colonels off to a fast start with a win-by-fall at 125 pounds.
Nick Mascellino (So./Hopatcong, N.J.; Hopatcong) opened up a 4-0
advantage with a takedown and two back-points in the first period.
Mayer, however, evened the match at 5-5 and recorded the pin 56
seconds into the second period.
At 133, Sean Cullen
(So./Cinnaminson, N.J.; Cinnaminson) came right back for the
Warriors, pinning Joe Yutko (Jr./Barnesville, Pa.; Mahoney)
in 3:37.
John Ambs (Sr./Mt. Joy,
Pa.; Donegal) gave Lycoming their first
lead of the match with a 3-2 decision over James McCarroll (Fr./Wapwallopen,
Pa.; Coughlin) at 141 pounds. Ambs scored on a first period
takedown and a second period escape.
Sean Reese (Sr./Milton,
Pa.; Milton) extended the Warriors lead
with an 8-0 major decision over Mike Sciulara (Sr./Centereach,
N.Y.; Centereach). Reese recorded a takedown in the first, three
back-points in the second, two back-points in the third, and a final
point for riding time.
At 157 pounds, Jason Smith
(Jr./Hughesville, Pa.; Hughesville) claimed Lycoming’s second
win-by-fall of the match. Smith took D.J. Giancola (So./Niagra
Falls, N.Y.; St. Josephs College) down early in the bout and
worked him to his back for a first-period pin.
Scott Hays (So./Yeagertown,
Pa.; Indian Valley) made it five bouts in
a row for the Warriors with a 2-0 decision over Sandrino Plutino
(Jr./Pitman, N.J,; Pitman). After a scoreless first period, Hays
scored an escape in the second and then rode Plutino for the entire
third period to gain the riding time point.
Derek Crane
(Sr./Elizabethtown, Pa.; Elizabethtown)
clinched the match for Lycoming with a second period pin at 174
pounds. Crane scored the first points of the bout with an escape to
start the second period. He then caught Kyle Lenio
(So./Montoursville, Pa.; Hughesville) in a bear-hug, throwing
him to the mat for the fall.
Hank Reedy (Fr./Sinking
Spring, Pa.; Wilson) added a second-period
pin of Bill Bleiler (Fr./Phoenixville, Pa.; Phoenixville) at
184 pounds for the Warriors. Brandon Kelly (So./Coopersburg, Pa.;
Southern Lehigh) got three points back for Wilkes with a 13-8
decision over Kevin Colton Craig (Sr./Flanders, N.J.; West Morris
Mendham) at 197 pounds. Tommy Snyder (Jr./New Columbia, Pa.;
Milton) finished the match off for Lycoming with an 8-0 major
decision over Matt Carey (So./Dallas, Pa.; Lake-Lehman).
The Warriors will wrestle
again tomorrow when they travel to Elizabethtown College for another
MAC dual match.
