WRESTLING DEFEATS ITHACA
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College wrestling team hosted Ithaca
College, Thursday evening, for a non-conference dual match. The
Warriors, ranked 16th in the nation, scored bonus
points in two bouts to upset the Bombers, ranked 12th,
by a score of 19-15. Lycoming improves to 14-5 on the year,
while Ithaca drops to 11-3.
The Warriors
got off to a fast start with victories at the first three bouts.
Jared Weller (So./Philipsburg, PA; Philipsburg Osceola)
opened up at 125 with a 9-6 decision. Mike Waldron
(So./Williamsport, PA.; Loyalsock) followed at 133 and
pinned his opponent in just one minute and 35 seconds, picking
up what would prove to be valuable bonus points. Andy Squires
(So./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) added a major decision at
141, winning 9-1.
Trailing 13-0
after only three bouts, Ithaca responded by winning the next
four bouts, all by decision, to pull within one of Lycoming. Jad
Duca (So./Monmouth Junction, NC; South Brunswick) won 8-3 at
149; Marc Israel (So./Bethlehem, PA; Liberty) won 11-6 at
157; Bill Parry (Sr./Hamilton, NY; Hamilton) won 9-5 at
165; and Andrew Locke (Sr./Bainbridge, NY;
Bainbridge-Guilford) won 6-5 at 174.
Jeff Tierney (Sr./Blairstown,
NJ; North Warren Regional) put
the Warriors back in front by four with a 4-3 decision at 184
pounds. The Bombers, however, again answered with a 5-3 decision
by Bryan Petti (So./Lockport, NY; Lockport)
at 197 pounds.
That left the
outcome of the match in the hands of the heavyweights. Tommy
Snyder (Fr./Milton, PA; Milton) came through for the
Warriors with a 6-4 decision that iced the match.
Lycoming will
compete again on Saturday when they travel to Hunter College.
The Warriors will wrestle dual matches versus Hunter, York and
Muhlenberg.
