WARRIORS ADVANCE AT MIDDLE ATLANTIC CONFERENCE WRESTLING
CHAMPIONSHIPS
WILKES-BARRE,
PA The Lycoming College wrestling team traveled to
Kings College, Friday evening, for the first day of
competition in the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships. The
Warriors had six wrestlers advance to the semifinals of their
respective weight classes. As a team Lycoming currently sits in
fourth place with 60.5 points.
Mike
Waldron (So./Williamsport, PA; Loyalsock)
and Andy Squires (So./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) were
the first Warriors to advance, each receiving byes at 133 pounds
and 141 pounds, respectively.
Clint
Swartz (So./Milton, PA; Milton) moved
on at 165 pounds with a 7-4 decision. Matt Bruce (Jr./Guys
Mills, PA; Maplewood) pinned his opponent at 2:03 of the
first round at 174 pounds. And Jeff Tierney (Sr./Blairstown,
NJ; North Warren Regional) won by technical fall at 184,
defeating his opponent 15-0.
Tommy
Snyder (Fr./Milton, PA; Milton)
became the final Lycoming wrestler to advance, receiving a bye
at heavyweight.
Wrestling
continues tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. with the championship
bouts to be held at 2:30 p.m.
