WARRIOR
WRESTLERS WIN THREE OF FOUR AT MAC DUALS
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College wrestling team won three-of-four
matches at the MAC North/South Duals, Saturday afternoon. The
Warriors recorded victories over Messiah (21-15), Albright
(45-3), and Elizabethtown (54-0). Their only loss was to
Delaware Valley, ranked eighth in the nation, by a score of
34-13. Lycoming is now13-5 on the season.
Against
Messiah, the Warriors won 5-of-10 bouts, but picked up bonus
points in four of those victories. Mike Waldron
(So./Williamsport, Loyalsock) – 133, Clint Swartz
(So./Milton, PA; Milton) – 165, and Jeff Tierney
(Sr./Blairstown, NJ; North Warren Regional) each recorded
a major decision. Matt Bruce (Jr./Guys Mills, PA;
Maplewood) added a decision at 174. With the match tied at
15-15 entering the heavyweight bout Tommy Snyder
(Fr./Milton, PA; Milton) came through for Lycoming in a
big way, pinning his opponent in the first round.
The
Warriors’ second match was versus Delaware Valley. Lycoming
won just four bouts against the Aggies. John Battaglia
(So./Beaver Falls, PA: Blackhawk) recorded a major
decision at 197 pounds. Andy Squires (So./Clearfield, PA;
Clearfield) – 141, Tierney, and Snyder added decisions.
Lycoming got
back on the winning track against Albright. The Warriors
dominated the Lions winning 9-of-10 bouts. Chad Decker
(Fr./Marysville, PA; Susquenita) and Tierney each won by
fall at heavyweight and 184 pounds, respectively. Jared
Weller (So./Philipsburg, PA; Philipsburg-Osceola) – 125,
Matt Hoffman (Jr./Sunbury, PA; Shamokin) – 149, and Kyle
Greene (So./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) each added
decisions. Lycoming received forfeits at 133, 141, and 165.
The Warriors
did one better in their next match, winning all ten bouts
versus Elizabethtown. Sean Reese (So./Milton, PA; Milton)
at 149 and Tierney at 184 pinned their opponents. Waldron at
133 won by technical fall just eight seconds into the second
period. Dan Winter (Sr./Langhorne, PA; Neshominy) added
a major decision at 165 and Squires won by decision at 141.
Lycoming also won a bout by injury default and four bouts by
forfeit.
