WRESTLERS FINISH FIFTH AT WHITEHILL DUALS
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College wrestling team rebounded from a
disappointing first day at the Budd Whitehill Duals to go 3-0
during day two and finish fifth in the tournament. The Warriors
defeated Messiah College 35-9, King’s College 24-15, and SUNY-Cortland
27-16 to improve to 8-2 overall this season.
Against
Messiah, Lycoming won 7-of-10 bouts. Matt Hoffman
(Jr./Sunbury, PA; Shamokin) and Clint Swartz (So./Milton,
PA; Warrior Run) recorded falls at 141 and 165 pounds,
respectively. Mike Waldron (So./Williamsport, PA; Loyalsock)
at 133 and Matt Bruce (Jr./Guys Mills, PA; Maplewood) at
174 each added major decisions. Jeff Tierney (Sr./Blairstown,
NJ; North Warren Regional) won by decision at 184 pounds.
The
Warriors then won 6-of-10 bouts versus King’s. Waldron and
Bruce pinned their opponents, and Sean Reese (So./Milton, PA;
Milton) (149), Tierney, John Battaglia (So./Beaver Falls,
PA; Blackhawk) (197), and Tommy Snyder (Fr./Milton, PA;
Milton) (285) each added decisions.
Lycoming
also won six bouts in the fifth-place match against Cortland.
Waldron, Reese, and Tierney each recorded falls. Heath
Oberlin (Fr./Mifflinburg, PA; Mifflinburg), Andy Squires
(So./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield), and Chad Decker
(Fr./Marysville, PA; Susquenita) each won by decision.
The
Warrior wrestling team will compete in the Cliff Keen National
Duals next weekend at Ohio State University.
