JERSEY WINS 2003 BUDD WHITEHILL DIVISION III DUALS
WILLIAMSPORT, PA -
The College of New Jersey completed a perfect 5-0 weekend with a
pair of victories on Saturday to claim the 2003 Budd Whitehill
Division III Duals. The Lions continued to dominate the field
defeating John Carroll University 33-4 in the semifinals and
Loras College 32-9 in the championship match. The title is
College of New Jersey's seventh in the 15-year history of the
dual meet tournament.
Versus
John Carroll, the Lions won 9-of-10 bouts, including a pin by
Dave Ilaria at 133 and major decisions by Pat Brady (149), Greg
Ilaria (157), and Rich Gildner (197).
Against
Loras, TCNJ won 7-of-10 bouts. Dave Ilaria tallied his second
fall of the day at 133, and PJ Marreale and Paul Vaccaro added
pins at 141 and 174, respectively. Greg Ilaria and Rich Gildner
each recorded major decisions for the second consecutive match.
Loras
defeated Ithaca College 29-9 in the semifinals to advance to the
title match. The Duhawks won 8-of-10 bouts versus the Bombers.
Loras finished the tournament 4-1.
John
Carroll rebounded from their loss to TCNJ to defeat Ithaca in
the third-place match. The Blue Streaks took 7-of-10 bouts from
the Bombers and also finished the tournament with a 4-1 record.
Lycoming
College defeated SUNY-Cortland 27-15 to place fifth and King's
College topped Ohio Northern 27-17 to place seventh at the
Duals.
