TOP FOUR SEEDS ADVANCE TO SEMIFINALS OF BUDD WHITEHILL DUALS
WILLIAMSPORT, PA - The opening day of competition at the 15th Annual Budd Whitehill Division III Duals was a bad for underdogs. The tournament's top four seeds combined to go 10-0 on the day as all four advanced to the semifinals.
Top-seed Loras College defeated McDaniel 42-3 in the first round, Case Western Reserve 33-9 in the second round, and SUNY-Cortland 25-12 in the quarterfinals. The Duhawks were led by Paul Cleary at 184 pounds. Cleary was 3-0 with the major decisions.
Number-two seed College of New Jersey topped Muskingum 41-3 in the opening round, Scranton 40-6 in the second round, and King's 33-6 in the quarterfinals. The Lions were led by Pat Brady at 149 pounds. Brady was a perfect 3-0 with two falls and a major decision.
Third-seed John Carroll University defeated Norwich 35-3 in their first match, SUNY-Oswego 34-4 in the second round, and Lycoming 26-7 in the quarterfinals. Mark Hawald, 174 pounds, led the Blue Streaks with a 3-0 record including a fall and a technical fall.
Number-four seed Ithaca College topped Johnson & Wales 29-18 in the first round, Chicago 23-10 in the second round, and Ohio Northern 32-10 in the quarterfinals. The Bombers were led by Andrew Locke at 174 pounds. Locke was 3-0 with a fall and a major decision.
In the semifinals, Loras will face Ithaca and John Carroll will challenge TCNJ. Semifinal action begins at 10:30 a.m.
