LYCOMING GRAPPLERS RECORD FIFTH 20-WIN SEASON

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College wrestling team hosted a quad-meet, Saturday afternoon featuring Gettysburg College, the University of Scranton, and Wilkes University. The Warriors won all three of their matches to run their season mark to 21-4 – the fifth time in the history of the program that Lycoming has won 20 or more dual matches. The Warriors opened with a 24-13 win over Wilkes, then shutout Gettysburg, 51-0, and finished the day with a dominating 46-6 win over Scranton.

Four Lycoming wrestlers won all three of their bouts on the afternoon. T.J. Hunsberger (Fr./Moon Township, PA; Moon) was perfect at 125 pounds with a decision, a major decision, and a win-by-fall. Mike Waldron (So./Williamsport, PA; Loyalsock) followed at 133 with a pair of pins and a major decision. At 149 pounds, Corey Mowery (Fr./Montgomery, PA; Montgomery) won two bouts by major decision and a third by decision.  Jeff Tierney (Jr./Blairstown, NJ; North Warren Regional) was the fourth Warrior to win all three bouts, recording two pins and a decision.

Andy Squires (Fr./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) and Dan Winter (Jr./Langhorne, PA; Neshaminy) also went undefeated in the quad-meet, but only wrestled two matches each. Squires tallied a decision and a major decision, while Winter won by a major decision and a pin.

“Winning three matches was a nice way to end the season and of course to get 20 wins again is special,” said Lycoming head coach Roger Crebs. “This gives us some momentum going into an important week of work before the conference championships. Also, we won some key bouts today that will help our seeding next weekend, so overall I’m very pleased with how we wrestled this afternoon.”

The Warriors will travel to Messiah College next Friday and Saturday for the Middle Atlantic Conference championship tournament.
