WARRIOR
WRESTLING GROUNDS FALCONS
WILLIAMSPORT,
PA – The Lycoming College wrestling team hosted Messiah College
for a Middle Atlantic Conference dual match, Friday evening. The
Warriors won seven of ten bouts to top the Falcons 32-9. Lycoming
improves to 18-4 in dual matches with the victory.
The Falcons
struck first as Tim Pentz won a decision over Andy Hull
(So./Mill Hall, PA; Bald Eagle Nittany) at 174 pounds. The
Warriors, however, got those points right back at 184 as Jeff
Tierney (Jr./Blairstown, NJ; North Warren Regional) won a 7-5
decision over Dan Stone.
Jon Neve
(Jr./Norristown, PA; Germantown Academy)
gave Lycoming their first lead of the match by pinning Tanner Kolb
just 16 seconds into the second period. The Warriors lead grew to
15-3 with a forfeit at heavyweight by the Falcons.
Messiah cut
their deficit to nine with a decision by Jacob Clackett over T.J.
Hunsberger (Fr./Moon Township, PA; Moon) at 125. The seesaw
tilted back to Lycoming's side in the next bout as Mike Waldron
(So./Williamsport, PA; Loyalsock) scored a major decision over
Ben Ewig to extend the Warriors' lead to 19-6. Andy Squires
(Fr./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) followed with another major
decision at 141 to put Lycoming in control with three bouts
remaining.
Andy Vogel
defeated Corey Mowery (Fr./Montgomery, PA; Montgomery) at
149 pounds, but it was not enough to get the Falcons back in the
match. With just two bouts remaining and a 23-9 lead, the Warriors
secured their 18th victory of the season.
Jeremy Adams
(So./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield)
added a pin at 157 and Derek Crane (Fr./Elizabethtown, PA;
Notre Dame) finished the meet with a 3-2 decision to make the
final score 32-9 in favor of Lycoming.
"We were a
little sluggish tonight," said Lycoming head coach Roger
Crebs. "But the guys wrestled hard and we won the close
matches which is important. A couple of our guys went out swinging
for the fences looking for the bonus points, some got them and
some didn't but overall I'm pleased with the effort. Now we have
to turn around and be ready for three tough matches
tomorrow."
The Warriors
will host a quad-meet tomorrow afternoon with Wilkes, Scranton,
and Gettysburg. The first pair of matches will begin at noon in
Lamade Gymnasium.
