LYCOMING WRESTLING FINISHES SECOND AT SCRANTON TOURNAMENT

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Lycoming College wrestling team placed second in a tournament held at the University of Scranton, Sunday afternoon. The Warriors compiled 134 points to finish behind only King’s College in the six-team field. Lycoming claimed two individual champions and a total of ten placewinners at the event.

Jeff Tierney (Sr./Blairstown, NJ; North Warren Regional) and John Battaglia (So./Beaver Falls, PA; Blackhawk) led the Warrior contingent by winning the 184 and 197 pound weight classes respectively. After receiving a bye, Tierney pinned his first opponent and then recorded a 6-0 decision in the title match. Battaglia also needed just two wins to claim his weight class. He won by decision in both bouts by scores of 7-0 and 1-0.

Runners-up for the Lycoming included: Dan Winter (Sr./Langhorne, PA; Neshominy) at 165 pounds; Justin Hoffacker (So./New Oxford, PA; Bermudian Springs) at 197 pounds; and Joe Ostrowski (Fr./Wilkes-Barre, PA; E.L. Meyers) at heavyweight.

Five other Warriors placed third in their respective weight classes: Jared Weller (So./Philipsburg, PA; Philipsburg-Osceola) – 125; John Ambs (So./Mount Joy, PA; Donegal) – 141; Jon Carlson (So./Emporium, PA; Cameron County) – 149; Tim Cherry (Jr./Furlong, PA; Central Bucks West) – 174; and Chad Decker (Fr./Marysville, PA; Susquenita) – heavyweight.

Lycoming will compete again on Saturday, December 14, when they travel to Johnson & Wales University for dual meets against their host as well as American International.
