GRAPPLERS GO UNDEFEATED AT PENNSYLVANIA/NEW
YORK DUALS
OSWEGO,
N.Y. – The Lycoming College wrestling team returned to the mats,
Saturday afternoon at the Pennsylvania/New York Duals, after
nearly a month-long layoff. The Warriors picked up right where
they had left off by winning all three matches to push their
season record to 8-1. Lycoming, currently ranked 14th
in the nation, defeated 12th ranked Cortland State,
27-19; 20th ranked Oswego State, 27-18; and RIT 30-16.
Against Oswego,
the Warriors won six of ten bouts to secure the win. Jeff
Tierney (Jr./Blairstown, NJ; North Warren Regional) and Mike
Waldron (So./Williamsport, PA; Loyalsock) recorded pins at 184
pounds and 133 pounds respectively. Andy Squires
(Fr./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) – 141, Corey Mowrey
(Fr./Montgomery, PA; Montgomery) – 149, and Jeremy Adams
(So./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) – 157 each won their bouts
by decision. Nate Jones (Jr./Houtzdale, PA; Moshannon Valley)
rounded out Lycoming’s scoring by accepting a forfeit at 174
pounds.
In the
Warriors’ match with Cortland State, the two teams split the
bouts, but Lycoming won four of their five matches by pins to
tally the 27-19 victory. Tierney and Waldron each recorded their
second pins of the day and Mowrey added another at 149. Jon
Neve (Jr./Norristown, PA; Germantown Academy) accounted for
the fourth fall, wrestling at 197 pounds. T.J. Hunsberger
(Fr./Moon Township, PA; Moon) was the Warriors’ fifth
winner, claiming a decision at 125 pounds.
Lycoming again
won 6-of-10 bouts in their final dual match versus RIT en route to
a 30-16 victory. Waldron recorded the hat trick by tallying his
third pin of the afternoon. Jeremy Betz (Jr./Muncy, PA; Wyoming
Seminary) also pinned his opponent at 141 pounds. Jones and
Neve each picked up decisions to finish the day at 2-0
individually. Hunsberger and Mowrey accepted forfeits to complete
the Warriors’ scoring.
With a dual match
record of 8-1 on the season, Lycoming is now off until Friday,
January 11, when they will host the Budd Whitehill Division III
Duals. The first day of action will begin at 10 a.m. on Friday.
