TRIO OF WARRIORS SET TO COMPETE AT NCAA DIVISION III NATIONAL WRESTLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Lycoming College will send three wrestlers to the NCAA Division III National Championships being held in Wilkes-Barre this weekend. Mike Waldron (So./Williamsport, PA; Loyalsock) will compete at 133 pounds, Andy Squires (Fr./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) will wrestle at 141 pounds, and Jon Neve (Jr./Norristown, PA; Germantown Academy) will compete at 197 pounds. All three qualified for the national tournament by winning the Middle Atlantic Conference championship at their respective weights.

Waldron enters the two-day tournament as the number three seed with a record of 34-1. Since transferring to Lycoming this season, Waldron has been tearing up the competition. His lone loss came in the championship bout at the Ithaca tournament on Nov. 10, 2001. He has since reeled off 30 consecutive victories, including 15 pins. Throughout the regular season, Waldron wrestled against five other national qualifiers defeating them all.

Squires and Neve each enter the tournament as unseeded competitors at their weights. Squires went 21-8 during his freshman campaign and has really come on late in the season. He has won nine consecutive matches and 14 of his last 17 dating back to Jan. 11 of this year. Neve joined the team in mid-season after some time off following football season. He has since tallied a record of 14-5, including wins in nine of his last 10 bouts. Eight of his victories this season have come by pins.

Wrestling begins tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. following the opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. More information on the tournament, including ticket prices, can be found at: www.scranton.edu/ncaawrestling/.
