WARRIOR
GRAPPLERS DROP TWO AT CLIFF KEEN NATIONAL DUALS
COLUMBUS, Ohio
– The Lycoming College wrestling team suffered losses in its
first two matches at the Cliff Keen/NWCA National Duals held at
Ohio State University this weekend. The Warriors lost their
opening bout to Springfield College, 22-18. They then fell to Ohio
Northern, 21-18, in the first round of consolations. Lycoming is
now 11-4 in dual matches this season.
The Warriors had
only three winners versus Springfield, but it was almost enough as
all three pinned their opponents. Mike Waldron
(So./Williamsport, PA; Loyalsock) got things started at 133
pounds; Jeremy Adams (So./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield)
followed at 157 pounds; and Jeff Tierney (Jr./Blairstown, NJ;
North Warren Regional) claimed the last fall at 184 pounds.
Against Ohio
Northern, Lycoming raced out to a 15-0 advantage by winning the
first four weights. T.J. Hunsberger (Fr./Moon Township, PA;
Moon) led off, accepting a forfeit at 125. Waldron then added
a 6-2 decision at 133. At 141, Andy Squires (Fr./Clearfield,
PA; Clearfield) recorded a 5-0 decision. Corey Mowery
(Fr./Montgomery, PA; Montgomery) followed at 149 with a 9-4
decision. Ohio Northern won the next two bouts, before Andy
Hull (So./Mill Hall, PA; Bald Eagle Nittany) won an 11-7
decision at 174 to put the Warriors up 18-9. The Polar Bears,
however, won the final three weights, including a technical fall
and major decision to claim the victory.
Lycoming will
return home for their next match, hosting conference rival
Delaware Valley on Friday, January 25.
