WRESTLING DUBBED SECOND IN MAC BY COACHES
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College wrestling team has been picked to finish
second in the Middle Atlantic Conference by the coaches in a
preseason poll. The Warriors received 55 points in the poll,
including three of the eight first-place votes. Defending champion
Delaware Valley College was picked to repeat with 59 points and
three first-place votes. King’s College received the other two
first-place votes and was picked to finish third with 52 points.
Lycoming returns
all 10 starters from last season’s 21-4 team that placed 17th
at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Three of those
returning starters were MAC champions in 2002, qualifying for the
national tournament. All-American Mike Waldron
(So./Williamsport, PA; Loyalsock) returns at 133 pounds after
a fourth place finish at the national championships. Andy
Squires (So./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) is back at 141 pounds
after winning an MAC title as a freshman. And two-time MAC
champion Jon Neve (Jr./Norristown, PA; Germantown Academy)
returns at 197 pounds.
The Warriors open
up their season at home on Wednesday, November 20, against
Division II Shippensburg University.
