GRAPPLERS WIN TWO AT JOHNSON & WALES
PROVIDENCE, RI
The Lycoming College wrestling team picked up a pair of dual
match victories, Saturday afternoon, at a tri-match hosted by
Johnson & Wales University. The Warriors defeated Johnson
& Wales 30-8 in their first match, and then outscored
American International College (Mass.) 36-9 in their second
match. Lycoming is now 2-1 overall on the season.
Mike Waldron
(So./Williamsport, PA; Loyalsock)
and Justin Hoffacker (So./New Oxford, PA; Bermudian Springs)
led the Warriors in their win over Johnson & Wales by each
recording a pin. Waldron pinned his opponent at 133 pounds in
3:45, while Hoffacker needed just 1:47 to record a fall at 197
pounds.
Six others
wrestlers won by decision for Lycoming, including Sean Reese
(So./Milton, PA; Milton) 9-5 at 149; Jeremy Adams
(Jr./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) 12-7 at 157; Heath
Oberlin (Fr./Mifflinburg, PA; Mifflinburg) 9-6 at 165; Kyle
Greene (So./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) 7-3 at 174; Jeff
Tierney (Sr./Blairstown, NJ; North Warren Regional) 7-3 at
184; and Al Fluman (So./Gettysburg, PA; Gettysburg) 3-2
at heavyweight.
Against
American International the Warriors were led by Reese, who
recorded a pin at 149 pounds, and aided by three forfeits in the
lighter weight classes. Reese pinned his opponent in just 1:37.
Adams added a
5-4 decision at 157 pounds, Tierney a 6-2 decision at 184, John
Battaglia (So./Beaver Falls, PA; Blackhawk) a 5-4 decision
at 197, and Fluman a 5-0 decision at heavyweight. T.J.
Hunsberger (So./Moon Township, PA; Moon), Waldron, and Andy
Squires (So./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) each accepted
forfeits.
We started
off kind of slow but then got things going and overall performed
pretty well, said Lycoming head coach Roger Crebs. Were
happy to go into the holiday break off these two wins. Were
looking forward to getting a few guys healthy and a little
rested and coming back strong in the second part of the
season.
Lycoming will
not wrestle again until Saturday, January 4, when they compete
in the Pennsylvania-New York Duals at Kings College.
