GRAPPLERS COMPETE IN ITHACA TOURNAMENT
ITHACA, NY –
The Lycoming College wrestling team traveled to Ithaca College
this weekend to compete in the Ithaca College Wrestling
Invitational. Following one day of competition, the Warriors are
in third place in the 15-team event with 68.5 points. Cornell
University is the leader with 89 points, followed by The College
of New Jersey with 85 points. Lycoming has four wrestlers
remaining in the championship bracket and 13 grapplers competing
in the consolation bracket.
Michael
Waldron (So./Williamsport, PA; Williamsport)
went 3-0 at 133 pounds to remain in the hunt for the title.
Waldron pinned two of his opponents and defeated the other by a
score of 16-6.
Jeremy Adams
(So./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield)
and Corey Mowrey (Fr./Montgomery, PA; Montgomery) both went
undefeated for the Warriors at 149 pounds. Adams won by scores of
9-0, 5-4, and 3-1. Mowrey recorded wins of 13-2, 5-0, 9-1, and
1-0. If both wrestlers are victorious in their semifinal bouts,
they will meet in the championship match for an all-Lycoming
final.
Jeff Tierney
(Jr./Blairstown, NJ; North Warren Regional)
is the fourth Warrior still battling for a championship. Tierney
was perfect in his two matches at 184 pounds, defeating his first
opponent 7-1 and then pinning his quarterfinal opponent in 1:18.
Still alive in
the consolation bracket are:
Thomas
Hunsberger (Fr./Moon Township, PA; Moon)
at 125 pounds. Hunsberger went 2-1 with one pin and a decision.
Nate Niman
(Sr./Newport, PA; Newport)
and Matt Hoffman (So./Sunbury, PA; Shamokin) at 133 pounds.
Both wrestlers went 2-1 with a pair of decisions.
Sean Reese
(Fr./Milton, PA; Milton), Andrew
Squires (Fr./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield), and Jeremy Betz
(Jr./Muncy, PA; Wyoming Seminary) at 141 pounds. Reese went
2-1 with a pin and a major decision, Squires went 2-1 with two
decisions, and Betz went 2-1 with a major decision and a decision.
Rain Bell
(Fr./Williamsport, PA; Williamsport)
at 149 pounds. Bell went 3-1 with two decisions and a medical
forfeit.
Dan Winter
(Jr./Langhorne, PA; Neshaminy)
at 157 pounds. Winter was 2-1 with a pin and a major decision.
Kevin Colton
Craig (Fr./Chester, NJ; West Morris Mendham)
at 165 pounds. Craig
went 2-1 with a decision and a medical forfeit.
Nate Jones
(Jr./Houtzdale, PA; Moshannon Valley)
at 174 pounds. Jones went 1-1 with a decision.
John
Battaglia (So./Beaver Falls, PA; Blackhawk),
Al Fluman (Fr./Gettysburg, PA; Gettysburg), and Justin
Hoffacker (Fr./New Oxford, PA; Bermudian Springs) at 197
pounds. Fluman went 2-1 with a pair of major decisions. Battaglia
and Hoffacker both were 0-1.
