LYCOMING WRESTLING SPLITS MATCHES AT ALBRIGHT

READING, PA – The Lycoming College wrestling team traveled to Albright College, Saturday afternoon, for a triangular dual meet with Albright and King’s. The Warriors splits their matches, falling to the Monarchs 24-9 and defeating the host Lions 35-9. Lycoming’s grapplers are now 4-1 overall on the season and 1-1 within the Middle Atlantic Conference.

Against King’s, the Warriors won three bouts while losing three others by just one point. Derek Crane (Fr./Elizabethtown, PA; Notre Dame) picked up Lycoming’s first points at 165 pounds, defeating Jesse Martinez 4-2 in overtime. Jon Neve (Jr./Norristown, PA; Germantown Academy) added another decision at 197 pounds topping Tegan McKee by a score of 3-1. Mike Waldron (So./Williamsport, PA; Loyalsock) recorded the Warriors’ final point with a 7-4 decision over Mike Griffith at 133 pounds.

Lycoming had an easier time with Albright, dropping just one bout and forfeiting another. Andy Squires (Fr./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield), Crane, Andy Hull (So./Mill Hall, PA; Bald Eagle Nittany), and Al Fluman (Fr./Gettysburg, PA; Gettysburg) all won by decisions. Jeff Tierney (Jr./Blairstown, NJ; North Warren Regional) pinned his opponent at 184 pounds and Corey Mowrey (Fr./Montgomery, PA; Montgomery) recorded a 15-0 technical fall at 149 pounds. Dan Winter (Jr./Langhorne, PA; Neshaminy) and Waldron picked up victories by forfeit.

“We wrestled well today, even against King’s. We just didn’t win the close bouts,” said Lycoming Head Coach Roger Crebs. “We had kids leading late in matches but didn’t close them out like we normally do. We still have some building to do because we’re a very young team but I’m proud of what we have accomplished first semester. Now we go into break and we’ll have a chance to get everyone healthy so we can come back hard in January.”
