WARRIOR
WRESTLING OPENS SEASON WITH WIN OVER BUCKNELL
LEWISBURG, PA –
The Lycoming College wrestling team kicked off the 2001-2002
campaign with a dual meet at Bucknell University. The Warriors won
five of the ten matches to claim a slim 22-19 victory.
Freshman Al
Fluman (Gettysburg, PA; Gettysburg) was Lycoming’s top
performer recording an 11-3 major decision at heavyweight. Jeremy
Adams (So./Clearfield, PA; Clearfield) and Matt Hoffman
(So./Sunbury, PA; Shamokin) each added decisions at 149 and
133 pounds respectively. Freshmen Derek Crane (Elizabethtown,
PA; Notre Dame) and Andy Squires (Clearfield, PA;
Clearfield) each accepted forfeits for the Warriors and what
proved to be valuable points. Crane was in the lineup at 165 and
Squires tipped the scales at 141.
“We won ugly
tonight,” said Lycoming Head Coach Roger Crebs. “It made it
clear how much work we have to do. But it is very early, so
we’re glad to get the win, we’ll learn from the experience and
we’ll work hard at getting better.”
Lycoming’s
grapplers will be in action again next weekend when they travel to
the Ithaca College Tournament.
