MACPHAIL AND
EVANGELIST TO PLAY IN ALL-STAR TOURNAMENT
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.
– Lycoming College women’s lacrosse teammates Brenda
MacPhail (Sr./Newtown Square; Marple Newtown) and Lauren
Evangelist (Fr./Perkiomen; Boyertown) have been chosen to
represent the Upper Atlantic region in the United States Women’s
Lacrosse Association National Tournament to be held at Lehigh
University over Memorial Day weekend.
The pair competed
in two days of competitive tryouts with collegiate and
post-collegiate players from Pennsylvania, Delaware and New
Jersey. The tryouts held in Philadelphia, featured players from
Division I schools such as La Salle, Temple, Colgate, Rutgers,
Penn State and Princeton, and Division II powers Gannon and
Bloomsburg. Both MacPhail and Evangelist were selected for the
Upper Atlantic team made up of 10 players from Divisions I, II and
III. Teams representing regions from all over the nation will
compete in the tournament.
MacPhail was the
Warriors’ leading scorer this season with 45 goals and 17
assists. Her senior season at Lycoming capped a stellar career in
which she scored 170 goals and recorded 64 assists – both
all-time records for the fifth-year program
Evangelist was
the Warriors’ top midfielder in her rookie season, scoring 30
goals to rank second on the team while leading the team in both
groundballs with 79 and caused turnovers with 46.
As a team,
Lycoming went 11-5 overall on the season to set a new record for
single-season victories and record their second consecutive
winning season.
