MACPHAIL AND EVANGELIST TO PLAY IN ALL-STAR TOURNAMENT

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming College women’s lacrosse teammates Brenda MacPhail (Sr./Newtown Square; Marple Newtown) and Lauren Evangelist (Fr./Perkiomen; Boyertown) have been chosen to represent the Upper Atlantic region in the United States Women’s Lacrosse Association National Tournament to be held at Lehigh University over Memorial Day weekend.

The pair competed in two days of competitive tryouts with collegiate and post-collegiate players from Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey. The tryouts held in Philadelphia, featured players from Division I schools such as La Salle, Temple, Colgate, Rutgers, Penn State and Princeton, and Division II powers Gannon and Bloomsburg. Both MacPhail and Evangelist were selected for the Upper Atlantic team made up of 10 players from Divisions I, II and III. Teams representing regions from all over the nation will compete in the tournament.

MacPhail was the Warriors’ leading scorer this season with 45 goals and 17 assists. Her senior season at Lycoming capped a stellar career in which she scored 170 goals and recorded 64 assists – both all-time records for the fifth-year program

Evangelist was the Warriors’ top midfielder in her rookie season, scoring 30 goals to rank second on the team while leading the team in both groundballs with 79 and caused turnovers with 46.

As a team, Lycoming went 11-5 overall on the season to set a new record for single-season victories and record their second consecutive winning season.
