WARRIOR
WOMEN’S LACROSSE OPENS CONFERENCE PLAY WITH VICTORY; EXTENDS WINNING
STREAK TO FIVE
WILKES-BARRE, Pa.
– Senior Brenda MacPhail (Newtown Square; Marple Newtown)
scored four goals and assisted on two others, leading the Lycoming
College women’s lacrosse team to a 13-7 victory over King’s
College, Thursday afternoon. The win came in the Warriors’ first
conference game of the season and is their fifth consecutive
victory overall. Lycoming’s record now stands at 5-1 overall and
1-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. The Monarchs fell to 2-3
and 0-2 with the loss.
The Warriors
grabbed an early lead, racing out to a 3-0 advantage before
King’s was able to find the goal. Freshman Lauren Evangelist
(Perkiomen; Boyertown) scored the first goal just 29 seconds
into the game off an assist by MacPhail. MacPhail then tallied the
next two goals unassisted. Lycoming kept the pressure on
throughout the half, taking a 6-2 lead into the intermission.
In the second
half, the Warriors again struck quickly as Darlene Moyer
(Sr./York; Central York) found the back of the net 37 seconds
into the period. The Monarchs responded with five goals throughout
the second half, but could get no closer than three before
Lycoming pulled away for the final six-goal margin.
MacPhail led the
Warriors with four goals. Heather Wilt (Sr./Wyoming; Dallas
Senior) added three scores, while Hillary Barrett
(Sr./Collegeville; Perkiomen Valley) and Colleen Kenyon
(Jr./Milmont Park; Ridley Senior) each scored twice. Jessica
Miller (Sr./Emmaus; Emmaus) made seven saves in goal for
Lycoming.
The Warriors
return home this weekend to host conference opponents Widener
University on Saturday and Drew University on Sunday. Saturday’s
game begins at 2 p.m. and Sunday’s begins at 1 p.m.
