WARRIOR WOMEN’S LACROSSE FALLS TO SCRANTON

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team hosted the University of Scranton in a Middle Atlantic Conference game with playoff implications for both teams, Thursday afternoon. Liz Baumbach (So./Long Valley, NJ; West Morris Central) scored five times to pace the Royals as they defeated the Warriors 16-9.

Leading 3-2 midway through the first half, Scranton took control of the game when they scored three goals in 63 seconds to open up a four-goal cushion. Another score just before the intermission put the Royals ahead 7-2.

Lycoming found their offense in the second half, scoring seven times. But the Warriors could not keep pace with Scranton who scored nine times in the final 30 minutes.

Lauren Evangelist (Fr./Perkiomen; Boyertown) and Colleen Kenyon (Jr./Milmont Park; Ridley Senior) each scored three goals for Lycoming. Hillary Barrett (Sr./Collegeville; Perkiomen Valley) added two goals for the Warriors, and Heather Wilt (Sr./Wyoming; Dallas Senior) recorded a goal and an assist.

Baumbach added an assist to her five goals to lead the Royals with six points. Kathryn Fullmer (Sr./Prospect Park; Academy Notre Dame) added three goals for Scranton.

Jessica Miller (Sr./Emmaus; Emmaus) made 21 saves in goal for Lycoming. Scranton’s goalie Kathleen Scanlan (So./New City, NY; Albertus Magnus) made 10 saves.

The loss drops the Warriors’ record to 9-5 overall and 2-4 within the MAC. Lycoming now must win their final conference game against FDU-Madison and receive some help in order to make the conference playoffs. Scranton improves to 9-4 overall and 5-1 against conference opponents with the win. The Royals also clinched a playoff spot while winning their sixth consecutive game.

The Warriors travel to FDU-Madison on Saturday, April 21 for their next contest.
