LYCOMING WOMEN’S LACROSSE TOPS
LOCK HAVEN

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Lycoming College senior Hillary Barrett (Collegeville; Perkiomen Valley) scored a goal with 1:35 to play in the game to give the Warriors a 9-8 victory over Division II Lock Haven University, Friday afternoon. The victory is Lycoming’s second straight and improves their record to 2-1. The Lady Eagles fell to 0-1.

The Warriors jumped out to a 4-2 lead at the end of the first half behind a pair of goals by Brenda MacPhail (Sr./Newtown Square; Marple Newtown). Lycoming extended their advantage to 7-3, midway through the second half. Colleen Kenyon (Jr./Milmont Park; Ridley Senior) scored the first goal of the period off an assist by Lauren Evangelist (Fr./Perkiomen; Boyertown). Evangelist then scored two goals of her own to give the Warriors a four-goal cushion.

However, Lock Haven did not roll over, scoring a pair of goals in a 12 second span and then adding two more unanswered goals to knot the game at seven. With all the momentum in the Lady Eagles favor, Lycoming kept their poise and regained the lead on Evangelist’s fourth goal of the game. Lock Haven tied the game again with 2:34 to play before Barrett’s heroics less than a minute later.

Jess Miller (Sr./Emmaus; Emmaus) played a solid game in goal for the Warriors, stopping 15 shots.

“I’m pleased with the way we played today. We showed a lot of character late in the game,” said head coach Katherine Roberts. “It was good to see one of our freshmen step up and have a big game. Lauren [Evangelist] really played an awesome game.”

Lycoming will play again next Friday, March 23 when they host Hood College in their home opener. Game time is 4 p.m.
