Box Score
WILKES-BARRE,
Pa. --- Lycoming women’s lacrosse extended its winning streak to
three games with a Middle Atlantic Conference schedule opening
15-12 victory over King’s College on Tuesday afternoon. The
Lady Warriors improve to 4-1 overall, 1-0 in MAC play, while
Monarchs fall to 0-2, 0-2.
Lycoming’s
scoring prowess continued with eight first half goals on the way
to an 8-3 halftime edge. King’s stepped up its intensity in the
second half and outscored the Lady Warriors in the second half,
but Lycoming’s early advantage proved too much to overcome by
the final whistle.
Freshmen
Sarah Wingerden (Macedon, Pa./Palmyra-Macedon) and Kelly
Mack (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) spurred the Lady Warriors’
attack with four goals apiece. Wingerden, also with an assist
for five total points, notched three of her tallies in the
second half while Mack split hers evenly between the frames.
The sophomore
duo Megan Wallenhorst (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) and
Heather Suit (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) continued their
assault on opposing net-minders. Wallenhorst dropped in three
more goals to give her 29 on the season while Suit scored twice
and assisted on two others to give her 20 helpers on the
season. Freshman Crystal Cody (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit)
came way with a goal and an assist, and senior Erin Robinson
(West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) notched her first
goal of the year.
Sophomore
keeper Kristina Peacock (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Thomas)
had her most productive game of the season coming away with 14
saves. She stopped nine shots in the first half, helping the
Lady Warriors on their way to a five-goal edge.
Wallenhorst got
the show started with a pair of goals within the first 1:13 of
the game. King’s tied the score quickly with tallies from
Erica Kovats and Lindsay Sabo.
Lycoming broke
the game open over the next 16-plus minutes with six unanswered
goals. Suit started the process with her first goal at the
23:55 mark, followed by two quick scores from Mack. Wallenhorst
followed with her third goal and Wingerden with her first before
Robinson put the finishing touches on the Lady Warriors’
outburst with 3:47 left to play in the first half.
The Monarch’s
Grace King cooled the Lady Warriors’ crosses with her
first score just 1:28 prior to the intermission.
King, Sara
Alesso, and Michelle O’Brien quickly closed
Lycoming’s edge to 8-6 with three goals in the first 4:07 of the
second half. Lycoming, seemingly stunned for a moment,
regrouped for its second long scoring run with another six-goal
scoring streak. Mack notched picked up her third goal of the
game with 19:54 on the clock to begin the Lady Warriors’ run.
Suit, Wingerden, and Mack followed with three more Lycoming
goals covering a span of 1:20 leading for a 12-6 lead. Cody and
Wingerden capped off the effort with two more goals and a 14-6
advantage with 11:51 left to play.
The Monarch’s
closed the game in a fury, scoring six times in the final 11
minutes of play, three of which were scored by King. Wingerden
followed a four-goal King’s run with her fourth goal of the game
to slow the Monarch’s attack and reaffirm a five-goal edge for
Lycoming at 15-10. King’s added two more before the final
whistle.
Lycoming is
next in action on Saturday, March 25, as the Lady Warriors
travel to FDU-Florham for a MAC showdown. Game time is
