Lady Warriors Overpower
York
Wallenhorst Notches Career-High Tying Seven Goals
YORK, Pa. --- Lycoming women’s lacrosse sophomore Megan
Wallenhorst (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) spearheaded the Lady
Warriors’ high-octane attack with a personal career-high tying
seven goals in a 15-5 victory over York College on Saturday
afternoon. Lycoming improves to 2-1 in early season play while the
Spartans fall to 1-4.
Lycoming’s second year attacker notched four of her goals
in the first half to lead the Lady Warriors to a 7-3 halftime
edge. Wallenhorst and
freshman Sarah Wingerden (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon)
combined for five of the team’s eight second-stanza scores to
secure the triumph.
Wallenhorst now boasts 17 goals through the first three games
of the season, putting her on pace to far surpass last season’s
mark of 41 goals. Wingerden
has made the most of her first three games in blue and gold,
notching three more scores against York to give her 10 on the
season. Sophomore Heather
Suit (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) made plays throughout the
attacking half of the field, dishing our four assists while
scoring two goals of her own.
Freshmen Kelly Mack (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt), Kelli
Morsey (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall), and Morgan Reale
(Phelps, N.Y./DeSales Reg.) continued their strong
performances with a goal apiece.
Mack added a pair of assists to her score line while Reale
handed out one helper.
Sophomore Kristina Peacock (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Thomas)
went the distance between the pipes for the Lady Warriors, coming
away with six saves and a half-dozen groundballs in the effort.
Wallenhorst and Mack teamed up for the first goal of the game
just 1:42 in for an early 1-0 lead.
A pair of Jaclyn Girsh goals in quick succession put
the Spartans head 2-1 with 23:04 to play.
The Lady Warriors responded with five unanswered scores
beginning with Mack’s goal in the eighth minute of play.
After assisting on Wingerden’s first score, Suit followed
with the first of her tallies before Wallenhorst added two more
for a 6-2 advantage.
York’s Megan Bell broke Lycoming’s streak with
16:57 on the clock, marking nine combined goals before the midway
point of the half. As
if on cue, the scoring pace slowed to a crawl until Wallenhorst
notched the final score of the opening frame with her fourth goal
of the game in the 25th minute.
Goals poured in quickly to open the second half beginning
with a score apiece from Suit and Wallenhorst to move the Lady
Warriors out to a 9-3 lead. Lindsay
Nixon cut Lycoming’s lead to five, but six successive goals
from the blue and gold put the game out of reach for good.
Lycoming is next in action on Monday, March 13, as the Lady
Warriors open their home schedule against Rosemont College.
Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at the Shangraw
Athletic Complex.
