Box Score Not Yet Available
GRANTHAM, Pa.
--- Lycoming women’s lacrosse saw its eight game winning streak
snapped abruptly by Messiah College on Tuesday afternoon as the
Lady Warriors fell to the Falcons 16-9. Lycoming drops to 9-2
overall, 6-1 in Middle Atlantic Conference play. Messiah moves
to 8-4, 6-0.
The Lady
Warriors, picked to finish eighth in the preseason MAC poll, had
that same census’ number one ranked squad on the ropes at the
intermission with a 7-6 lead. Lycoming scored early and often
as freshman Kelly Mack (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt)
notched the Lady Warriors’ initial goal off a dish from fellow
first-year standout Sarah Wingerden (Macedon,
N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon).
Wingerden added
three goals of her own with freshman Crystal Cody (Rochester,
N.Y./Irondequoit) picking up two of her three tallies in the
first 30 minutes of play. Sophomore Megan Wallenhorst
(Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) scored the final blue and gold
goal of the first stanza to give Lycoming a 7-6 lead at the
half.
The second half
proved an entirely different story.
The Lady
Warriors, the league’s top scoring offense at 14.6 goals per
contest, were held to only two scores in the second frame.
Lycoming committed the bulk of its 30 turnovers following the
midway point, aiding Messiah’s efforts in peppering sophomore
goalkeeper Kristina Peacock (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Thomas)
with a plethora of shots. Peacock came away with a season-high
20 saves in an attempt to keep things close.
Cody and junior
Erin Dillon (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) notched the
only second-half goals for the blue and gold.
Lycoming looks
to get back on track on Thursday, April 13, as the Lady Warriors
welcome non-conference Farmingdale State to Williamsport. Game
time is set for 4:00 p.m. |
