Wingerden Named Player of the
Week
Freshman Midfielder Bolsters Rookie of the Year Bid
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa. --- Lycoming women’s lacrosse freshman midfielder Sarah
Wingerden (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) capped a
tremendous first regular season in blue and gold with her first
Middle Atlantic Conference Player of the Week award. As voting
for postseason awards nears, Wingerden could only have helped
her bid for the MAC Player of the Year honor with her showing
against Wilkes last week.
Wingerden had
one of the most complete games any player this season in the
conference as she got the job done on both ends of the field in
the Lady Warriors 18-6 triumph over the Colonels. The
first-year standout ran through the Wilkes’ defense for five
goals and three assists to lead Lycoming’s offensive surge to a
team record 211 regular season goals scored. The five goals
upped her personal total to 45, the second best total on the
squad, and combined with 14 assists for a team third-best 59
points.
Wingerden’s
defense may have been more impressive as she tracked down
opposing attackers to cause four turnovers. She picked up a
season-high 11 groundballs to improve her team-leading mark to
55. In the conference ranks, Wingerden is seventh in goals
scored and ninth in total points.
Lycoming opens
play in its first ever appearance in the MAC tournament on
Tuesday, May 2, as the third-seeded Lady Warriors welcome
sixth-seeded Elizabethtown College to Williamsport. Game time
is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Shangraw Athletic Complex. |
