Lycoming
Rallies to Beat Scranton, Stay Undefeated
** Suit Becomes
All-Time Assist Leader **
SCRANTON,
Pa.—Junior attack Megan Wallenhorst (Rochester, NY)
scored five of her game-high eight goals in the second-half to
lift Lycoming College to a come-from-behind 15-11 victory over
The University of Scranton in Middle Atlantic Conference action
Thursday afternoon.
Junior
attack Heather Suit (Annapolis, MD) finished with four
assists. Suit's first dish to freshman Christi Karr
(Lansdale, PA) in the first, established Suit as Lycoming's
all-time career assist leader.
Karr scored
the first two goals of the game and finished with three on the
day. Sophomore midfielders Sarah Wingerden (Macedon, NY)
and Crystal Cody (Rochester, NY) contributed two goals
apiece as the Warriors overcame a 7-4 halftime deficit to
improve to 9-0 overall and 5-0 in the MAC.
Scranton won
9 of the 12 draw controls in the first-half to control the pace.
Lycoming did a much better job on the draw after the half and
Wallenhorst scored two goals during a 4-1 rally in the opening
five minutes of the second-half to even the score at 8-8.
Scranton took two more leads, but the Lady Warriors were not
going to let this one slip away.
Cody and
Wallenhorst combined for four goals over a nine-minute span to
give the Warriors the lead for good, 13-10. The Warriors played
keep-away down the stretch after Wallenhorst scored back-to-back
goals with 7:04 and 6:02 left in the game. Junior goalkeeper
Kristina Peacock (Webster, NY) had a game-high eight saves
for Lycoming, which held a 35-25 advantage in shots and a 16-14
edge in ground balls.
Lycoming
travels next to #18 Montclair State on Saturday, April 1 for a
1:00 p.m. game. But don't be fooled, the Lady Warriors are
hungry for a win to climb the national rankings.
