Lycoming
Beats FDU-Florham in Overtime
Cody Scores Four
Goals, Peacock Nabs 15 Saves
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—Lycoming’s women’s lacrosse team (8-0, 4-0)
escaped an exceptional FDU-Florham team 11-10 in overtime on
Saturday. The Lady Warriors remain undefeated on the year and
stay perched atop the MAC standings.
FDU-Florham
came out strong and stunned Lycoming with five goals by five
different players in the opening six minutes. Junior goalie
Kristina Peacock (Webster, NY) relieved starter Brittany
Bryan (Petersburg, NJ) at 20:04 and racked up nine
first-half saves. Peacock tallied 15 stops on the afternoon with
a pair of ground balls.
Sophomore
midfielder Crystal Cody (Rochester, NY) scored the Lady
Warriors’ first goal eleven minutes into the game, followed by
scores by junior Heather Suit (Annapolis, MD) and
freshman Justine Titko (Wrightstown, NJ). Cody found the
net again on a free-position shot with 1:43 remaining and
Lycoming went into halftime down 7-4. Cody would finish the day
with a team-high four goals on five shots.
Lycoming’s
Titko, Christi Karr (Lansdale, PA) and Megan McIntyre
(Baltimore, MD) scored the first three goals of the second
half to even the score as momentum swung back to the blue and
gold. Both teams traded scores throughout the rest of
regulation, with Cody notching two and junior Megan
Wallenhorst (Rochester, NY) scoring one for the Lady
Warriors.
The Lady
Devils received their fourth yellow card with 1:32 left in the
second half, but Lycoming was unable to capitalize on its one
player advantage and the game went into overtime tied at ten.
In the first
of two three-minute overtime halves, sophomore midfielder
Sarah Wingerden (Macedon, NY) found the net to put Lycoming
up for good. The Lady Warriors effectively kept the ball away
from the Lady Devils until time expired.
Lycoming,
who received the most votes outside of the IWLCA’s Top-20 last
week, stand a good chance of cracking the national rankings this
week. The Lady Warriors were ranked #18 in insidelacrosse.com’s
most recent poll.
Lycoming
travels to Scranton on March 29 and Montclair State on April 1
before returning home to play Alvernia at 4:00 pm on Thursday,
April 5. Montclair State also received votes in the last week’s IWLCA poll, as did Catholic, whom the Lady Warriors defeated to
open this season.
