Lycoming Ends
Season at Drew
Lady Warriors Score
Ten in Second Half
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa.—Lycoming’s women’s lacrosse team fell to Drew in the second
round of the MAC Playoffs on Thursday by a score of 14-12. The
Lady Warriors scored ten second half goals but couldn’t overcome
the Lady Rangers.
Drew came out
strong, scoring the game’s first four goals, including three by
Lindsey Perno. Lycoming freshman Megan McIntyre (Baltimore,
MD) put the Lady Warriors on the board off of an assist from
Megan Wallenhorst (Rochester, NY) at 21:50. Wallenhorst
notched Lycoming's only other first half goal on an
assist from Kelly Mack (New Egypt, NJ). Drew netted
the final four scores of the period and went
into the break up 10-2.
The last
three times these teams have met, the game has been
decided by a single goal. Last season, then-senior Kaity
Ryan scored twice in the final thirty seconds to give Drew
the win at Lycoming, while Sarah Wingerden (Macedon, NY)
scored with 11 seconds left in last year's MAC Playoffs to give Lycoming the win. Earlier this year, Alex Weber
Reitz secured a 14-13 victory for Drew in overtime. So,
Thursday's eight-point
halftime lead was not a done deal between these two MAC squads.
Lycoming
stormed out of the break, scoring five unanswered goals and
swinging momentum their way. McIntyre scored twice in the
first eight minutes of the second half. She finished with four
goals on the day. Wallenhorst recorded three goals in the first
ten minutes, making the score 10-7. But at 20:34,
Wingerden received her second yellow card and was forced to sit
for the rest of the game.
Though they
were still up by three goals, the Rangers seemed to be reeling
before senior captain Courtney Cunningham found the net
at 18:20. She also grabbed three consecutive draw controls and
scored two of the game’s next three goals. Lycoming’s
Justine Titko (Wrightstown, NJ) split the difference, but
after another Drew score, the Lady Warriors were behind 14-8.
Lycoming
scored thrice within four minutes, but at 9:27, the Lady
Warriors were called for their fourth yellow card, forcing them
to play down a player for the remainder of the contest.
Impressively, Lycoming held Drew scoreless for the rest of the
game. At 2:58, head coach Kara Reber pulled goalie
Kristina Peacock (Webster, NY) and added an offensive player to even Lycoming's attack. Wallenhorst scored eight seconds later, but that would
be the last change in the tally. A Wallenhorst shot in the final
minutes caught the post and the final horn sounded with the
score 14-12.

Drew
advances to the MAC Championship game for the ninth time in ten
years with the win. They take on crosstown rivals FDU, who
upset top seeded Elizabethtown in an overtime thriller on the
road.
