WARRIOR WOMEN’S LACROSSE DROPS SEASON OPENER

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team opened their season, Wednesday afternoon, at division II Lock Haven University. The Warriors fell behind early and despite numerous attempts could not comeback against the Eagles, eventually falling by a score of 20-12. Lycoming starts the season at 0-1, while Lock Haven improved to 1-2.

The Eagles scored the first two goals of the contest to take an early lead but Lauren Evangelist (Jr./Perkiomen, PA; Boyertown) kept the Warriors close by scoring two of the next three goals. Nursing a 3-2 advantage, Lock Haven appeared to break the game open with four unanswered goals. Lycoming, however, came right back with four goals of their own to close within one at 7-6. But the half ended with the Eagles scoring five goals to just one for the Warriors, making the score 12-7 at the break.

Lock Haven put the contest out of reach with six consecutive goals to start the second half. Lycoming rallied late with three goals in the final three minutes, but it was not enough.

The Warriors were led by Evangelist with six goals and an assist. Ashley Rowe (So./Fairfax, VA; W.T. Woodson) added three goals. Sarah Gibbons (Sr./East Hampton, CT; East Hampton), Ashley Good (So./Lancaster, PA; Lampeter-Strasburg), and Melissa Wert (Sr./Mifflinburg, PA; Mifflinburg) each chipped in one goal, and Erica Likens (So./Bel Air, MD; Bel Air) recorded an assist. Laurie Rooney (Jr./Audubon, NJ; Audubon) played a strong game in goal for Lycoming, making 19 saves.

The Warriors will play again on Saturday, March 22, when they host FDU-Florham at noon.
