WOMEN’S LACROSSE OPENS SEASON WITH WIN
REDLANDS, CA –
The Lycoming College women’s lacrosse team opened the 2002
campaign with a 12-7 victory over the University of the Redlands,
Tuesday evening. The Warriors are competing and training in
California over spring break. They will challenge Whittier College
on Thursday.
Lycoming
scored six goals in each period to cruise to the five-goal win.
Three players recorded a hat trick for the Warriors in the game. Lauren
Evangelist (So./Perkiomen, PA; Boyertown) led the attack with
three goals and three assists. Junior Karyn Wright
(Schenectady, NY; Schenectady) and freshman Erica Likens (Bel
Air, MD; Bel Air) each added three goals, as well. Beth
Weixel (Fr./Mill Hall, PA; Central Mountain) chipped in a goal
and two assists; Sarah Gibbons (Jr./East Hampton, CT; East
Hampton) added a goal and one assist; and Ashley Rowe
(Fr./Fairfax, VA; W.T. Woodson) tallied the team’s other
goal.
Freshman Colleen
Clarke (Folsom, PA; Cardinal O’Hara) made eight saves in her
first collegiate game in net.
Lycoming will
travel to Whittier College for the next contest, before returning
home. The Warriors’ first home game will be on March 10 when
they host Nazareth College at 2 p.m.
