WARRIOR
WOMEN’S LACROSSE DROPS CONFERENCE CONTEST TO DREW
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
- The Lycoming College women's lacrosse team hosted Drew
University, Saturday afternoon, in a Middle Atlantic Conference
match-up. The Warriors hung with the Rangers, ranked 16th in the
nation, throughout the first half, but could not quite pull off
the upset falling 12-6. Lycoming is now 4-3 overall and 1-1 within
the conference. Drew improves to 4-1 and 2-0.
Karyn Wright
(Jr./Schenectady, NY; Schenectady)
opened the scoring four minutes into the contest to give the
Warriors an early 1-0 lead. The Rangers, however, scored three
unanswered goals to take a lead they would never relinquish. Beth
Weixel (Fr./Mill Hall, PA; Central Mountain) tallied a goal to
pull Lycoming within one, but Drew outscored the Warriors 4-2 the
remainder of the half to carry a 7-4 advantage into the
intermission.
The Rangers took
complete control of the game by scoring the first four goals of
the second period to build a seven-goal lead. Lycoming mounted a
late comeback with Erica Likens (Fr./Bel Air, MD; Bel Air)
and Weixel scoring back-to-back goals, but it was not enough.
Colleen Clarke
(Fr./Folsom, PA; Cardinal O'Hara)
made 16 saves in goal for the Warriors. Emily Hoeflinger made nine
stops for Drew.
Lycoming will
play again on Wednesday, March 27, when they travel to Messiah
College.
