MADISON, N.J. --- Lycoming women’s basketball ran into a
much bigger FDU-Florham squad that commanded the paint and
glass as the Lady Warriors fell 63-41 on Saturday afternoon.
Lycoming drops to 4-13, 1-7 in the Freedom Conference
while the Devils improve to 13-5, 4-4.
FDU out-rebounded Lycoming 29-14 in the first half including
16 offensive boards that led to 16 more field goal attempts
from the Devils. Considering
both teams shot 30 percent from the field, the disparity in
shots directly resulted in the Lady Warriors’ 29-16
halftime deficit.
Lycoming did its best to claw back in the second half thanks
to a strong 13-of-16 showing from the free throw line and
extra effort on the offensive glass (eight off. rebounds),
but the Warriors managed only a 17.2 percent showing from
the field (5-of-29) against the Devils 14-of-30, 46.7
percent second half output.
Freshman Andrea Cooper (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg)
led the Warriors with a game-high 17 points, 11 rebounds,
and two blocked shots.
Three of her five made field goals were from beyond
the arc. Senior
Danielle Kern (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman) remained
strong from the charity stripe with a 7-for-8 showing on the
way to nine points and three rebounds.
Ashley
Flaherty led three Devils in double figures
with 16 points and a game-best 13 rebounds She also blocked six shots.
Emily Cerankowski added 14 points and 10 boards while Jessie Chalmers chipped in 10 points.
Lycoming looks to sweep the season
series from Wilkes University as the Warriors travel to
Wilkes-Barre for a Freedom Conference clash on Wednesday,
February 1. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
