WILKES-BARRE,
Pa. --- Lycoming women’s basketball fell victim to a good
rebounding King’s College squad as the Lady Warriors came
up short 70-52 to open the major portion of their Freedom
Conference schedule on Wednesday evening.
Lycoming drops to 3-9, 0-3 on the season while
Monarchs improve to 7-7, 2-1.
Although
King’s owned only a 32-30 lead going into the
intermission, 13 offensive rebounds gave the Monarch’s too
many second chances to put up points in the opening frame.
King’s attempted 14 more total shots than the
Warriors at 64-50, but a 10-shot margin in the first half
gave the Monarch’s the extra chances they needed to hold a
halftime edge.
Freshman
Andrea Cooper (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg) led
three Warriors in double figures with 13 points in only 17
minutes of play due to foul trouble.
Senior Amy Kile (Muncy, Pa./Muncy) followed up
with 12 points while freshman Marissa Hastings (Old
Forge, Pa./Old Forge) dropped in 10.
Seniors Danielle Kern (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman)
and Stacy Lindeman (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) both
boasted complete stat lines for the Warriors.
Kern put up seven points and seven rebounds to go
with five assists and four steals.
Lindeman dropped in eight points teamed with five
boards and five assists.
The
Monarch’s were led by 20 points and 12 rebounds from
center Andrea Hochstuhl.
Forward Beth Jordan added 15 points, eight
boards, and five assists, and guard Kaitlyn Florino
chipped in 10 points.
The
first half proved to be a back and forth battle with the
lead changing hands five times before King’s opened up a
six point lead with 5:12 on the clock.
The Warriors pushed back, tying the score twice
before going into the half down by two.
King’s
put on some extra defensive pressure in the second half
resulting in 13 Warrior turnovers.
The Monarch’s used those miscues to register
several easy scoring chances.
The
Warriors fought back hard while shooting a nice 45.5 percent
from the field (10-for-22), but King’s limited Lycoming to
only one chance on the offensive end thanks to solid
defensive rebounding. After
King’s stretched out a nine-point advantage with 14:59
left to play, the Lady Warriors clawed back to within four
points at 45-41 thanks to a Kile field goal and Hastings
three-pointer.
That
would be as close as the Warriors would get as the
Monarch’s took control throughout the remainder of the
contest on the way to victory.
Lycoming
is next in action on Saturday, January 14, as the Lady
Warriors travel to Drew University for a Freedom Conference
showdown. Game
time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.. |
