WILKES-BARRE, Pa.—The women’s basketball team (2-3) could
not overcome Wilkes (3-1) on Wednesday night, falling 75-67.
The loss starts the Lady Warriors at 0-1 in the Freedom
Conference.
Freshman
sharpshooter Brittany Knopp (Allenwood, PA) hit 3 of
4 three-pointers on her way to a team-high 16 points.
Andrea Cooper (Hollidaysburg, PA), last week’s Freedom
Conference Player of the Week, followed suit with 14 points,
adding eight rebounds and four assists.
Alicia
Engler (Williamsport, PA)
led the Lady Warriors with nine boards and four steals,
while Jessica Nabholz (Cressona, PA) added 12 points.
But, their efforts could not overshadow
Wilkes’ Randi Corbo, who led both teams with 18
points and 14 rebounds.
Midway
through the first half, the Lady Colonels led 23-10. But,
the Lady Warriors went on a 16-2 run to go up 26-25. Wilkes
battled back and held on to a 32-30 advantage at halftime.
The game remained close for most of the second period, but
Lycoming could not overcome the Lady Colonels. Wilkes sank
its free throws in the final minutes and took its
opening conference game.
Lycoming
is back in action on Saturday at Lamade Gymnasium. The Lady
Warriors take on Drew University at 1:00 p.m. The contest
will be followed by a men’s game at 3:00.
