Elizabethtown
Too Much for Lycoming
Guard Cooper Has
Outstanding Game in Loss
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa.—The Lady Warriors (2-2) hung tough with the Lady Blue
Jays (3-1) on Sunday afternoon, however Elizabethtown
emerged victorious, 77-71, at Lamade Gymnasium. Lycoming
sophomore Andrea Cooper (Hollidaysburg, PA) played
exceptionally well, scoring 28 points, including four
three-pointers. She also had a team-high five assists.
Freshman
Rebecca Leid (Denver, PA) grabbed 11 rebounds and
scored 11 points, while freshman forward Jessica Nabholz
(Cressona, PA) scored 14 points. Unfortunately, their
efforts weren’t enough to eclipse a taller Elizabethtown
team, led by Erin Walton’s 31 points.
Elizabethtown was ahead for much of the first half, but the Lady
Warriors always stayed within striking distance. An early
Cooper three put Lycoming up 25-23 and Lycoming went into halftime
leading 35-32. But Elizabethtown came out strong and
regained the lead. Then, with 53 seconds remaining in the game, a Cooper jumper
pulled Lycoming to within one point, but excellent free-throw shooting
kept Elizabethtown ahead.
Lady
Blue Jay Walton was 12 of 12 from the foul line and
her counterparts, Megan Romano and Amanda Reid,
each hit two key foul shots down the stretch to secure the
win. Elizabethtown is now only four wins away from amassing
900 all-time victories. No NCAA Division III women’s team
has ever won 900 games.
Lycoming
plays next at Wilkes on Wednesday, November 29. Their next
home game is Saturday, December 2 at 1:00 against Drew. A
men’s game will immediately follow the action. |
