Lady
Warriors Defeat Delaware Valley
Zerbee, Cooper
and Nabholz Combine for 48 Points
DOYLESTOWN,
Pa—Lycoming’s women’s basketball team (8-17, 3-11) defeated
Delaware Valley (11-13, 7-7) on Saturday, February 17 by a
score of 80-64. Earlier in the season, the Lady Aggies
topped the Lady Warriors 65-63.
After
falling to the nation’s #6 team on Thursday, Lycoming was
ready to close out its 2006-07 season on a winning note.
Something about the Lady Warriors’ loss to Scranton made
head coach Chris Ditzler’s team raise their game.
Freshman
Jessica Zerbee (Duncansville, PA) led Lycoming’s
charge, scoring 19 points while grabbing five rebounds and
three steals. Sophomore Andrea Cooper (Hollidaysburg, PA)
found her stroke from long range, hitting three
three-pointers on her way to 17 points and four rebounds.
Freshman
forward Jessica Nabholz (Cressona, PA) snagged a
team-high seven boards, while putting up 12 points. Junior
Allison Palubinsky (Ringtown, PA) notched five
rebounds and five assists for the Lady Warriors.
Lycoming
went in at halftime with a one-point lead, 37-36, on the
strength of Zerbee’s 12 first-half points. Five minutes into
the second period, the Lady Warriors began to pull away and
cruised to a 16-point win. The loss knocks Delaware Valley
out of the Freedom Conference Playoffs.
Ditzler’s roster this season included no seniors and the Lady Warriors
hope to ride the momentum of their final win into a fruitful
2007-08 season. Ten different freshmen started for Lycoming
during 2006-07 and they now have a year under their belt. |
