Lady
Warriors Downed by DeSales
Leid Leads
Lycoming with 16 Points
WILLIAMSPORT,
Pa.—Lycoming’s women’s basketball team (7-16, 2-10) fell to
Freedom Conference playoff-bound DeSales (16-7, 8-4) on
Saturday afternoon 74-58. Despite the losing effort, the
Lady Warriors played a solid game with three players scoring
in double-digits.
Freshman
Becky Leid (Denver, PA) led Lycoming with 16 points
on the day. Leid’s eight first-half points kept the game
from getting out of control early. In fact, an eight-point
Lady Warrior run to end the first half brought Lycoming back
from a 32-17 deficit to go into the break 32-25.
Fellow
frosh Amanda Clouse (State College, PA) and junior
Michelle Wisla (Schwenksville, PA) scored 11 and 10
points respectively. Meanwhile, guard Jessica Zerbee
(Duncansville, PA) displayed great frontcourt play with
four assists and three steals. Still, Lycoming
couldn’t
stop DeSales’ LeighAnn Burke, whose 23 points (16 in
the final period) kept the Lady Bulldogs on top.
DeSales
is firmly entrenched in third place in the conference and
will continue into the playoffs. The Lady Warriors are
gelling as a unit, and with no seniors on this year’s team,
they have much to look forward to next season.
But, not
so fast! First, Lycoming hosts nationally ranked Scranton at
Lamade Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 13 at 6:00 p.m. The
Lady Royals were ranked number one in the country two weeks
ago. They are now number seven.
FAN ADVISORY:
The students
will stage a “white out” at Tuesday’s game! All fans are
encouraged to join the student body in wearing white
clothing to the game. A men’s game will follow the action. |
