Lady Warriors Drop Home Opener
Boxscore
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Lycoming women’s basketball opened its
2005-06 home schedule against Mansfield University on
Saturday afternoon, but the outcome was less than desirable
as the Warriors fell to the Mountaineers 75-48. Lycoming
drops to 1-3 on
the
season while Mansfield improves to 4-0.
The
Warriors looked strong for the first 10 minutes of the
contest hanging tough with their NCAA Division II opponents,
but the Mountaineers eventually caught stride and went into
the half up 39-25.
A poor
shooting first half got a little better in the second frame
as the Lady Warriors shot a few ticks better than their 31.3
percent showing in the opening stanza with a 33.3 percent
second half output, but Mansfield reared back and made
14-of-28 shots in the second twenty minutes to secure its
victory.
Senior
Amy Kile (Muncy, Pa./Muncy) led the Warriors attack with
18 points including a pair of three-point field goals.
Freshman Andrea Cooper (Holidaysburg, Pa./Holidaysburg)
followed up with 11 points and senior Danielle Kern
(Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman) pulled down a team-high 12
rebounds.
Mansfield
was paced by 19 points and 13 boards from center Alison
Taglieferri. Guard Alicia Espigh added 18 points
while guard Jessica Uhrich grabbed seven rebounds and
dished out seven assists.
The
Mountaineers inside-outside game proved much of the
difference in the match. Mansfield routinely played the
ball into their post player who, when not shooting,
redistributed the ball to one of the wings for an open jump
shot. When they missed, the Mountaineers crashed the boards
hard evidenced by a 48-32 rebounding advantage.
Lycoming
looks to regain its winning ways as the Lady Warriors open
Freedom Conference play against the University of Scranton
on Wednesday, November 30. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in
Lamade Gymnasium.
