WARRIOR WOMEN’S HOOPS CLAIMS
FIRST CONFERENCE WIN
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The
Lycoming College women’s basketball team traveled to Wilkes
University, Wednesday evening, for a Freedom Conference
showdown. The Warriors used a late run to take control of
the game, defeating the Lady Colonels 74-55. Lycoming
improves to 5-8 overall and 1-4 within the conference.
Wilkes falls to 3-13 and 0-5.
The first half of the contest
was back-and-forth with three ties and six lead changes, but
the Warriors carried a slim 29-27 advantage into halftime.
The Colonels responded with a strong effort to open the
second half, building a 40-33 lead six minutes into the
period. Lycoming, however, battled back to tie the game at
43-43 with seven minutes to play in the game.
From there the Warriors took
control going on a 13-2 run to open up a 58-47 lead as the
game entered the final four minutes. Lycoming would continue
to stretch their lead to a game-high 19 by game’s end.
Senior Mindy Culp (New
Columbia, Pa.; Milton) led the Warriors with 16 points
in the contest. She also added three steals and two assists.
Danielle Kern (Jr./Lehman, Pa.; Lake-Lehman) added 15
points and five rebounds. Amy Kile (Jr./Muncy, Pa.; Muncy)
pulled down a game-high seven rebounds while scoring 13
points. Stacy Lindeman (Jr./Whitehall, Pa.; Whitehall)
came of the bench to contribute 10 markers.
Wilkes was led by Rena Bolin
with 16 points and five rebounds. Randi Corbo added nine
points and Andrea Kacprowicz chipped in eight points.
Lycoming will return to
Lamade Gymnasium for their next contest, hosting FDU-Florham
on Saturday, January 22. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
