Lady Warriors Come Up Short in Season Opener

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Lycoming College women’s basketball came up on the short end of a 77-51 score in its season opening match against SUNY-Fredonia at St. John Fisher College on Friday evening.

Freshman Andrea Cooper (Holidaysburg, Pa./Holidaysburg Area) led the Warriors with a strong 15-point 10-rebound effort in her first game in blue and gold.  She also blocked a pair of shots and recorded a two steals.

Fellow first year player Marissa Hastings (Old Forge, Pa./Old Forge) and senior Amy Kile (Muncy, Pa./Muncy) proved nice support with 11 and 10 points, respectively, but Fredonia’s attack would prove too steep to overcome.  Fredonia’s Cheryl Kindzia led all scorers with 30 points on 14-21 shooting.  Danielle Bleecker added 11 points.

Lycoming shot only 32.0 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes, but was still within in reach at halftime down only 31-23.  Fredonia pushed the pedal down in the second stanza shooting 55.6 percent from the field (20-36) while the Lady Warriors mustered only a 9-26 shooting (34.6 percent) performance.

The Warriors move on to face York College (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in the Ramada Inn Invitational consolation match.  Fredonia squares off against host St. John Fisher in the championship game at 3:00 p.m.
