WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The
Lycoming College women’s basketball team hosted Wilkes
University, Tuesday evening for a Freedom Conference
contest. The Warriors used rebounding and defense to record
a 62-57 victory over the Colonels. Lycoming improves to 7-15
overall and 3-9 within the conference with the win. Wilkes
falls to 4-19 and 1-11.
The Warriors started strong
scoring the first nine points of the game, but the Colonels
fought back to tie the game at 11-11 midway through the
period. The lead then changed hands six times before
Lycoming claimed a 27-25 advantage at the half.
In the second half, the
Warriors again came out of the gate fast using an 11-2 run
to open up a 38-27 lead less than four minutes into the
half. Wilkes whittled the deficit down to four with four
minutes to play in the game, but Lycoming was able to hold
on for the victory. For the game, the Warriors forced 24
turnovers and out-rebounded the Colonels 45-36.
Freshman Colleen Wade
(Hatboro, Pa.; Hatboro-Horsham) led Lycoming with 16
points and six rebounds. Amy Kile (Jr./Muncy, Pa.; Muncy)
added 15 points and five rebounds. Amy Herschman
(Sr./Northampton, Pa.; Northampton) led the squad with
11 rebounds, while scoring six points and recording five
steals.
Wilkes was led by Andrea
Kacprowicz (Jr./Holmdel, N.J.; Red Bank Catholic) with
17 points. Rena Bolin (Jr./Wyoming, Pa.; Scranton Prep)
added 13 points, and Lacey Andresen (Fr./Deposit, N.Y.;
Deposit Central) chipped in 11 points and a game-high 14
rebounds.
The Warriors will be in
action again on Thursday, February 17, when they host FDU-Florham
for another conference contest. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
