WOMEN TOPPED BY SCRANTON
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College women’s basketball team hosted the
University of Scranton, ranked seventh in the nation, Wednesday
evening. The Warriors played the Royals tough through one half,
but Scranton pulled away over the final 20 minutes to win 70-39.
Lycoming drops to 7-10 overall and 2-5 in the conference. The
Royals improve to 17-1 and 6-1.
Scranton appeared
to take control of the game early, pulling out to a 22-11 lead
midway through the first period. The Warriors, however, used a 9-0
run to pull within two before the Royals stretched their lead back
to seven at the half.
The second half
was all Scranton as they shot 55% from the field and forced 18
turnovers, outscoring Lycoming 43-19.
Mindy Culp
(So./New Columbia, PA; Milton)
led the Warriors with nine points. Emily DiMarco (Jr./Voorhees,
NJ; Eastern) and Kristen Dart (So./Saratoga, NY; Saratoga
Springs) each added eight markers. Lyndy LeVan (Sr./South
Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport) recorded a team-high
eight rebounds.
Judy Flounders
(Jr./Havertown, PA; Archbishop Carroll)
was the Royals’ leading scorer with 14 points, including four
three-pointers. Tara Gemmel (So./Catasauqua, PA; Catasauqua)
added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Lycoming
travels to Delaware Valley College on Saturday, February 1, for
their next contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
