WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HAS UPSET BID FALL SHORT
WILLIAMSPORT, PA
– The Lycoming College women’s basketball team hosted DeSales
University, Saturday evening, in the opening game of a Freedom
Conference doubleheader. The Warriors nearly pulled off a
come-from-behind upset of the Bulldogs, ranked fifth in the
nation, but fell just short, losing 48-54. Lycoming drops to 7-9
overall and 2-4 in the conference with the loss. DeSales improved
to 15-1 and 5-1.
The Warriors
scored the games first two baskets and were able to hold the lead
through the first five minutes of action. The Bulldogs eventually
asserted themselves and quietly opened up a 33-22 advantage by
halftime.
Lycoming,
however, began chipping away at their deficit in the second half.
Midway through the period, the Warriors pulled within three only
to have DeSales quickly extend their lead back to eight. Again
Lycoming began chipping away and again they closed to within three
with just 31 seconds to play. The Bulldogs, however, kept their
composure and knocked down three key free throws to secure the
win.
Lyndy LeVan
(Sr./South Williamsport, PA; South Williamsport)
led the Warriors with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Eight
other players scored for Lycoming.
Alyssa
Antolick (So./Bethlehem, PA; Bethlehem Catholic)
was DeSales’ leading scorer with 13 points, including three
three-pointers. Jen Netwall (So./Allentown, PA; William Allen)
added 10 points, while Teri Antolick (Sr./Bethlehem, PA;
Bethlehem Catholic) chipped in a team-high 10 rebounds and
nine points.
The
Warriors are right back at it on Wednesday, January 29, when they
host the University of Scranton. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
