LYCOMING WOMEN’S BASKETBALL WINS SUSQUEHANNA TIP-OFF TOURNAMENT

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Lycoming College women’s basketball team won their second consecutive game to open up the 2003-2004 season by defeating Susquehanna University, 62-51, in the championship game of the Pepsi/Weis Markets Tip-Off Tournament, Sunday afternoon.

The first half was back-and-forth with seven ties and three lead changes. The Warriors built an eight-point advantage late in the period, but the Crusaders were able to cut their deficit to three by halftime.

In the second half, the action continued to be back-and-forth with Susquehanna holding a 38-37 lead with 12 minutes to play. At that point, however, Lycoming began to take control slowly pulling away from the Crusaders. With six minutes remaining the Warriors led by eight and with just over two minutes to play Lycoming’s lead had swelled to a game-high 15 points.

Amy Kile (So./Muncy, Pa.; Muncy) came off the bench to lead the Warriors with 17 points in the contest. Stacy Lindeman (So./Whitehall, Pa.; Whitehall) added 14 points and Emily DiMarco (Sr./Voorhees, N.J.; Eastern) chipped in 10 markers. Katy Kresge (Sr./Lehighton, Pa.; Marian Catholic) led the team with six rebounds while scoring six points. Mindy Culp (Jr./New Columbia, Pa.; Milton) tallied a team-high five assists, while also scoring six points.

Kile was named the most valuable player for the tournament and was joined on the all-tournament team by Culp.

Lycoming will play again on Tuesday, November 25, when they travel to College Misericordia for a non-conference contest.
